It seems strange if the police patrol version of the 2012 model year Chevrolet impala had been revealed by the General Motors, even though we have not see the full details on the retail model yet. Claimed by Detroit automaker that the additional horsepower and fuel economy of the police derivative will come along with the 2012 Impala which is planned to arrive on sale this month.

In either police or retail forms, actually the 2012 impala is redesign of the GM’s new 3.6-liter V6 engine with direct-injection technology which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. When doing test by GM, the engine is able to produce 302 horsepower and accelerate from the standstill to 60 mph (96 km/ h) in just 6.6 seconds.

Although the car produces a 230 horsepower with a 3.9 V6 engine matched to a 4-speed transmission, it means there is increasing power of 72 horsepower; the fuel economy is 17 mpg city and 27 mph highway. That fuel efficiency is higher 28 per cent compared to the previous impala models. The GM said that the car will be soon able to shift the Ford Crown Victoria.

Not only new engine and transmission, the 2012 Impala also will adopt GM’s electronic stability control technology called StabilTrak as the first time of the series. The impala also get upgraded of the brake system shorten vehicle’s 60-0 mph stopping distance to 132 feet. The impala is fine-tuning of the steering and suspension systems so that the body rolls can be reduced and handling will be improved. A Goodyear’s Eagle RS-A all-season tires that have a W speed rating (up to 140 mph or 225 km/h) also has been mounted on the new impala.
