Last month, the lotus had announced to delay the released of the Elan to focus o the Evora and other models (Lotus Esprit pictured). However, it seems that the British manufacturer is spending the money that had been planned to the Elan’s development to create its own range of V6 and V8 engines. Such a bad news, I think.
The project boss, Dany Bahar said in an interview that because of the Elan is not happening now, the company has the money to spend on the engine development. Furthermore that was expensive to do an engine.
The first engine is V8 which will arrange the competition with its rival, Ferrari’s V8 engine as seen in the 458 Italia. The new lotus is claimed producing power of 550 to 570 horsepower. The test will be held on July 2011. After that testing, lotus will go forward in a new V6 engine which is set to be used in Eterne model production. An impressive light all new aluminum platform will be fitted in both new engines.
The Lotus said that the design of Elan is most likely to the Esprit so that the Elan lineup would not be showed yet until it close to the end five years plan of the company.
The decision toke by lotus to dismiss Toyota engines and create its own engines is based on the survey of 10,000 Internet users carried out during the Paris Motor Show last fall. The company also planning to get its own four cylinder engine from the new V8 but if the result is not enough satisfying the company will one again call the Toyota.
