The new model of the Chevrolet carmaker is the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which will go into production in the first quarter of next year. Several months away from its production day, now the details of the range-topping muscle coupe, Camaro, has been confirmed by the General Motors’chief engineer, Al Oppensheiser.

The new Camaro is said, by the chief engineer, to feature the same Performance Traction Management system as it is found in the Corvette ZR1, in addition to an auto transmission option. In the Corvette, the PTM is equipped with launch control, normal traction control, active handling and selective ride control system.

The Camaro ZL1, which had its debut at eh Chicago Auto Show in the dust, is powered by a LSA 6.2 liter supercharged V8 engine, producing an estimated 550 HP – the power could be higher thanks to its new feature, the Performance Traction Management system – and 550 lb-ft of torque. This is the same supercharged as the Cadillac CTS-V. With the engine, the Camaro ZL1 comes as the most powerful Camaro ever.

In general, the Camaro ZL1 is about high-tech performance and design, and is a type of car that no one has ever brought to the segment previously, as it was said by the vice president of Chevrolet marketing, Rick Schedt.

The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be featured with a new front fascia and hood with air extractors, as well as a signature center section that is constructed of carbon fiber rendered in satin black finish, distinguishing the ZL1 with the others. The new model is paired to a set of 20 inch wheels and exhaust tips with ZL1 badge on the grille, hood, and brake calipers.
