A month ahead of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the British automaker Morgan is preparing its new vehicle, Morgan Aero Coupe. The model will extend the Aero family in which the topless Aero Supersports is the black sheep of the lineup. The Aero Supersports is a vehicle with a combination of styling cues from the 4/4 and the Plus 4 which is mixed with a state-of-the-art chassis and a large-displacement engine coming from BMW.
The new Aero Coupe is basically a duplicate of the Supersports except it comes with a fixed roof. Like its sibling Supersports, the Aero Coupe, which is an advanced supercar designed for relatively long distance touring, is entirely constructed from aluminum weighing at 2,600 pounds, relatively the same figure as its sister. It is inspired by the GT3 Aero. The interior is the assembly of skilled craftsmen at Morgan factory in Malvern, England. Interestingly, the buyers can customize themselves nearly all aspects of their Aero Coupes, including the upholstery and the dash color.
The new Morgan Aero Coupe is powered by a 4.8 V8 engine that can be optionally matched to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The BMW-sourced engine, in the standard model, is capable of providing output at 367 HP and 370 lb-ft of torque. The power will be increased to be 390 HP when it is equipped with sports exhaust which is offered as an option. With such great power, the Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.5 seconds with the manual and 4.2 seconds with the automatic transmission. The vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 170 mph. The fuel consumption of the manual-mated engine is listed at 16 mpg urban, 32 mpg extra urban, and 23 mpg combined. On the other hand, the auto-matched engine is rated at 17 mpg urban, 36 mpg extra urban, and 26 mpg combined.
