After unleashing to the public the XIV-1 concept, which offers a stylish exterior and a completely new take on the CUV interior, in September of last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Ssangyong, which is a South Korean automobile manufacturer ranking the fourth largest in the country, is continuing its exploration to the shape of the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) of the future with the new XIV-2 convertible.
The first images of the XIV-2 CUV have just been revealed some times ago. The successor of the XIV-2 concept will make its world debut next month at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle seems to go into production in 2013 and will be a new competitor for the Nissan Juke in the compact crossover segment.
The recently-revealed CUV of Ssangyong is powered by the environmentally friendly, fuel efficient 1.6-liter diesel and petrol engines. Both engines are set to be compliant the Euro VI emission regulations.
The new CUV convertible measures 4,166 millimeters (164 inches) length, 1,820 millimeters (71.6 inches) width and 1,566 millimeters (61.7 inches) height. Additionally, the wheelbase is 2,600 millimeters (102.4 inches).
The new XIV-2, which the name stands for ‘eXciting User Interface Vehicle’, is partially derived from its former sibling. Both concepts bring the combination of a crossover and a sports car. They are designed to offer to public the preview of the automaker’s upcoming compact crossover for European market. Distinctively, the XIV-2 concept is characterized by the new innovation of soft top roof. The new roof will easily open and close with only one touch of a button. The highlighted feature of the XIV-2 will also be likely to be one of the features of the carmaker’s upcoming range of compact SUVs which will also be equipped with the same Euro VI emission-compliant diesel and petrol engines.
